Revitalize your Skin with Chemical Peels

Skin is exposed to all of the elements, weather, and everything we allow to touch it. Some of these things can leave skin looking weathered. Drs. Aman Sandhu and Diem Pham can revitalize your skin with chemical peels at Sand Dermatology in Chino Hills, CA.

The Surface of the Skin

The skin as most are familiar with it consists of two layers:

  • Dermis: The lower layer; and
  • Epidermis: The surface layer that we see and touch.

The epidermis is what gets to experience the sunlight, environment, and everything that we contact. This stress can result in the epidermis becoming discolored, aged, and/or clogged. In time, the skin will naturally lose the ability to return itself to its original form through the loss of collagen.

What Do Chemical Peels Do?

A chemical peel uses a specific strength of an exfoliating acid to apply directly to the epidermis with the goal of removing a controlled amount of the topmost layers of skin. (Stronger peels may reach the dermis.) Saline compresses are then used to cleanse the acid off of the area.

Over the next several days (depending on the depth of the chemical peels and the condition of the skin), new skin cells will be formed to replace the cells that were removed by the acid. These replacement cells will not contain many of the flaws that were caused due to their exposure to the world.

Chemical peels are commonly used to treat:

  • Facial lines;
  • Sun damage;
  • Scarring;
  • Acne; and/or
  • Rosacea.

Immediately following chemical peels, the skin will be raw and vulnerable. It is important to keep it as protected from the elements as possible, particularly UV rays. If you must go outside, it is best to try to avoid being out between 10 am and 4 pm, as well as to use a minimum of SPF 30 on the exposed skin.

Different forms of chemical peels are available to accommodate different skin tones, skin types, and skin goals. This is due to the many types of causes for any given skin condition. It is important to understand the history of the skin to know what is best to repair it.
