Causes of Acne

The body naturally produces an oil called sebum that is used to lubricate and moisturize the skin. When sebum is released, it travels along the hair follicles. As it moves along the hair follicles, dead skin cells, dirt, and other debris are swept up with the sebum and carried out through the pores. If something interrupts this process, such as hormonal changes, dead skin cells and debris can become trapped in the hair follicle, thereby clogging the pores and causing acne to develop.
