To help prevent skin cancer, you should do a regular self-check of your skin. You need to know what to look for. These are some of the signs of skin cancer:
- Moles that are poorly defined, with ragged borders
- Moles that have an asymmetrical shape
- Moles that have a diameter of 6 millimeters or more
- Moles that have grown back after previous removal
- Moles that itch, ooze, or bleed
- Red, scaly patches of skin that hurt or bleed
If you notice any of these signs of skin cancer, you need to visit your dermatologist for a skin cancer screening. Your dermatologist will perform a complete skin check. If your dermatologist detects suspicious areas, your dermatologist may recommend removing a small section of tissue.
